THE MNS Marine Group is delighted to announce that we have been awarded a generous RM9,000 conservation and environmental grant from the Ford Motor Company to cover part of the costs incurred to organise and carry out Tioman Island Fest (TIF) 2006.

Some of you might remember TIF ’05... for 2006 we are planning a much larger version of last year’s event – focusing on low-impact sustainable eco-tourism. There will be a series of workshops for the Tioman local community between February to May ’06 ranging from English lessons to training as trail and snorkeling guides. At the same time, Pulau Tioman children will be involved in a number of activities through Kampung Tekek School’s environmental club. We hope to also get entire villages involved in clean up programnes.

All of this will culminate in the Island Fest on 3rd June 2006 where there will be games, food and handicraft stalls, exhibitions, competitions and much, much more. Even beyond Island Fest, the effects of TIF 2006 will carry on – we hope to send participants from the trail and snorkeling guide training for a National Guiding accreditation course so that they can continue to drive low-impact sustainable eco-tourism on their island.

To pull this off, we need your help – if you’d like to volunteer for the event or support us through much needed donations of cash or kind, we would be eternally grateful!

The Ford Motor Company grant will definitely help to bring trainers to Tioman to work with the locals, but much more is needed to make this event a real success. Do get in touch to make a difference – every little bit helps!
