Day Trip to Pulau Ketam (27th July 2019, Saturday)

Day Trip to Pulau Ketam is back!!! NEC will be conducting this programme to Pulau Ketam the 2nd time on 27th July 2019. This full day trip will be packed with educational activities such as river cruise and bird watching. Participants will gather at Port Klang before departing to Pulau Ketam by ferry.

Pulau Ketam, when literally translated, means “crab island”. It is a small island located off the coast of Klang. The island is easily accessible from the Port Klang jetty by ferry. The “floating houses” that come into view as visitors approach the island are a sight that would awe any city slickers. Perching casually on long wooden stilts, these dwellings are suspended about one to ten metres above sea level. Pulau Ketam is also a part of Important Bird Area (IBA) as becoming one of the flyways, flight paths used by birds in migration. You will be able to spot migratory and water birds during the bird watching activity.

For river cruise, the participants will learn  about and be exposed to the different types of mangrove trees living at the Sungai Dua. During this activity, the participants will also be bird-watching, searching for the many kinds of birds living in mangrove areas, learning more about the lives of migratory birds at Pulau Ketam.

An explorace will also be conducted around the Pulau Ketam, and the participants will get to know the history of Pulau Ketam as well as the culture of Pulau Ketam at each station.

Come and join this educational and meaningful trip with us to explore the nature in Pulau Ketam!
