MY Garden Birdwatch 2020 – 6th & 7th June 2020

In conjunction of International Day of Biological Diversity, 22 May 2020, we would like to invite you to participate in our MY Garden Birdwatch project this year!

MY Garden Birdwatch (MYGB) is a non-profit project run by the Bird Conservation Council of the Malaysian Nature Society, sustained by volunteers of various backgrounds who have a soft spot for birds and their habitat.

Malaysia has about 800 species of birds and some of them can be found in your backyard or in the park near you. Certain species might look outstanding while other might look quite similar to one another.

Parks, backyards, drains, lakes, around your housing area, the forest edge behind your house, on top of the condominium’s roof, grasslands and many more. These are some of the examples of habitat where you can find birds. The close linkages between some bird species and their habitats make them useful for identifying ecosystem health. As such, they can be indicators of deteriorating habitat quality and environmental pollution, as well as metrics to determine the success of restoration efforts.

That is why HABITATS MATTER TO YOU (the human) AND ME (the bird)!  This year, MYGB team would like to ask you to explore all the habitats and get to know its avian inhabitants. Join MYGB survey on 6th & 7th of June 2020 and tell us your discovery!

Note: The submission form goes live on the first day of the annual count, and stays open for two weeks. The form can be accessed from the text on the homepage.

A REMINDER to all who would like to participate in MYGB 2020: Wash your hands before and after birding, keep yourself and your belongings sanitized after birding, and practice social distancing!
