MNS 70th Anniversary Royal Dinner Celebrated in a Royal Fashion
MNS’ 70th Anniversary Royal Dinner and celebrations were nothing short of glitters and stars as it was celebrated in an exclusive fashion on 10/10/2010, here in Kuala Lumpur. The theme of the night was set against the backdrop of MNS’ 70 years of rich history in conservation campaigns and activities and the various supporters and members.
MNS also took this opportunity to showcase its ongoing campaigns particularly the Save Temengor Campaign . Temengor Forest Reserve , is one of the last virgin forest in Peninsular Malaysia and is 130 million years old, older even than the Amazon and the Congo Basins. It is MNS’ resolution to not only protect Temengor from further degradation through logging of its natural resources and poaching of its wildlife, but to also include all Malaysians in The Save Temengor Campiagn signature pledge activity to give them a sense of partaking when Temengor is finally protected. This campaign is a continuation of the Belum Temengor Conservation Initiative which led to the gazettement of the Royal Belum State Park in 2007.
The Royal Dinner was graced by Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong; as well as His Royal Highness Raja Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, the Regent of Perak Darul Ridzuan and Her Royal Highness Raja Puan Besar.
Other distinguished guests included, Marco Lambertini, Chief Executive of Birdlife International and guests from long term corporate supporters and partners such as Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), Natural Resources and Environment Ministry (NRE), Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), and many more.
This Royal event also accorded the first of its series of awards called the MNS’ 70th Anniversary Award for Environmental Leadership in several categories to corporate members who have played a pivotal role in supporting MNS’ cause throughout the years, as a mark of gratitude and acknowledgement.
Among those who received awards were The Body Shop Peninsular Malaysia, Yayasan Sime Darby, HSBC Bank Malaysia, Genting Malaysia Berhad, Shell Malaysia Berhad and The Frangipani Resort and Spa Langkawi.
Among other highlights of this Royal Event was the MNS 70 Years Journey presentation video, special performances by Amir Yussof and Andrew Netto and Joanna Bessey, who played host to the event.

Ladies and Gentleman
Salam hormat and good evening,
Ladies and gentleman MNS is truly honored by the presence of their Majesties SPBYPA and SPBRPA and their Royal Highnesses the Regent of Perak Darul Ridzuan and his Consort. Thank you for being with us.
On behalf of the MNS I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to all our guests to this Royal Dinner and to join us in celebrating the 70th birthday of MNS. This organization was born in 1940 and till today we do not know whether it’s a boy or girl but we know that we are not gender bias. We are proud of its age as it is the oldest NGO in the country if not the region in championing the cause of Nature Conservation.
Tonight I would like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to a gentleman who has built up MNS into a respectable institution serving it with dedication as the President for over 30 years. Lets show our appreciation to Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Salleh Mohd Nor in the usual manner.
As an organization MNS has established a track record for its dedication to the Nature Conservation through public education especially of youths, awareness programs, conservation projects, establishment of State and National Parks, scientific expeditions, collaboration with national and international organizations to preserve Malaysia’s natural heritage. MNS has also has been producing a scientific journal the Malaysian Nature Journal (MNJ) for the last 70 years and the popular magazine the Naturalist for about 36 years besides many reports on biodiversity and conservation issues of public interests.
Every State in the country has at least one active MNS branch supported by the Council, Board of Trustees , EXCO and secretariat in the HQ. MNS is not financially rich but is richly endowed with the passion of its members for the cause of conservation. We are quite dependent on the financial support and the sponsorships by public, private and international institutions, who share our aspirations. Thus allow me to thank all our supporters and we welcome new sponsors.
We would also encourage those of you who are not members yet to please sign up tonight and be a naturalist. Once again thank you all for your material and moral support to MNS a society fully dedicated to sustainable development in its true sense. Last, but not least terima kasih to the hardworking members of the International Conference, which just ended yesterday and the Royal Dinner committee and the Secretariat, Istana Negara, Istana Perak, Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, our entertainers, our MC or juruacara and all I have forgotten to mention.
Ampun Tuanku sekian sahaja ucapan patik. Patik mohon ampun dan maaf jika tersilap tutur kata.
Wabilahi taufik wahidayah
Wassalamualikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
